Welcome to Historic Cokesbury Cultural Center

The first of April 2024 began a new journey in the Histori Cokesbury's history. Through the generosity of Market Street Methodist Church, the Cokesbury Board of Directors has been given the deed and all responsibilities for upkeep and operation of this beloved institution. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to take on this tremendous responsibility.

The former Historic Cokesbury Church has been a part of Onancock’s rich history since 1784, with the present facility being constructed in 1854. Many generations have passed by this majestic structure on their way to and from the Onancock Wharf. In the last 20 years, the beautiful stained-glass windows have been restored to their original elegance. Within these walls, couples have married, children and adults have been baptized, funerals conducted. Local and professional groups have entertained and delighted us, bringing talent from near and far. Cokesbury has welcomed everyone in the community to share in the wonderful events, at no cost to those attending. The Board of Directors will continue to offer this gift to all.

THE NEXT GENERATION

The newly formed Cokesbury Foundation, Inc. -    a 501(c)3 nonprofit entity, will continue to share the facility as a concert hall, lecture Hall, and a place for the community’s use to share the Eastern Shore’s heart and soul.                                We ask the community’s assistance in raising funds to enable our Board to bring quality programming to our community for generations to come, with a variety of entertainment for all to enjoy. Equally important, it will allow us to maintain this historic building with a needed new elevator and roof, and other repairs as necessary.

Gifts of any size will be tax deductible and can be made over a period of time.
